PROJECTS
EDUCATION - MAYAN INDIAN VILLAGE OF SANTA CRUZ BALANYÁ
Messengers of Hope is sponsoring students at El Mirador Elementary school that serves underprivileged children in this area. Our main goal is to support the education of the children and to provide mentorship so they can create and pursue their dreams.
to promote intrinsic motivation for the students to create their own dream and pursue it. When we visited these children for the first time, none of them had dreams. As the opportunity to mentor them for some years have planted in them the seeds for them to dream, I ask questions now most of them can voiced out their dreams. The school principal has stated that “your sponsorship of these children have improved attendance, academic achievement and the intrinsic motivation to create and pursue their dreams”.
After many calamities in the area and ongoing assessment, we have increased the number of children to 150.
DAILY BREAKFAST
Many student would come to the school hungry and weak. They were malnourished. They were struggling in their learning process.
Today, each student receives daily breakfast consisting of beans, eggs, tortillas, a hot cereal (Incaparina) with milk; this has improved their attendance and daily academic success.
$25 a month provides the student’s daily nutritious breakfast, shoes, backpack and school supplies so they can be successful at school and future ready.
NEW SHOES, NEW BACKPACKS WITH SCHOOL SUPPLIES!
After assessing the condition of the students’ shoes, we noticed that some were wearing torn shoes or very old shoes. Parents that are already struggling to buy food could not afford do buy them shoes. After sharing this situation with some people, we decided to buy them a new pair of shoes every year at the beginning of the school year. We also noticed that many did not have schools supplies nor a backpack to bring to school. Our local government can’t provide these items for them, so a new backpack with school supplies are provided to them at the beginning of the year as well.
Food Bags for widows
As this community battles agains alcoholism, unemployment and underemployment in the agricultural fields, and sickness among other adverse circumstances, many women have lost their husbands and were left alone with their children; ranging from 3-7 kids per widow. The school principal, who knows the community by name and need recommended these 10 widows.
In an effort to support these families so kids can attend school instead or working to provide food on the table, Messengers of Hope are providing each family with a monthly food bag containing: beans, rice, Incaparina, spaghetti, corn oil, salt, chicken soup envelops, and more. Every woman is very grateful to receive this bag and be able to feed their own children. Each bag costs $25

Adan
Adan is a fourteen-year-old boy and the eldest child in his family. He gets up at 5 AM sharp to study. He is a very dedicated student and loves school. He is learning his way around the internet when he is given the opportunity at school. He loves soccer and is a huge Barsa (Argentina) fan. Last November, burglars came and stole all his family's belongings (which wasn’t much to begin with) leaving them with nothing. Messengers of Hope sent him clothes, shoes, and a soccer ball for him to play. He passed his 8th grade and he is so encouraged to enroll next school year (January-Oct) in 9th grade. For $25 a month you can cover his school supplies and school registration fees.
